AICPA has named Cari Weston, CPA, CGMA, director of taxation. In her new role, Weston will lead the AICPA’s Taxation Team in providing the information and resources required by AICPA members who provide tax planning, preparation, examination and representation services to their clients.  The resources include tax practice quality control and management tools, as well as guidance and best practices related to tax ethics and practice standards.

Weston had her own tax practice firm in Austin, Texas before she joined the AICPA in 2013 as senior technical manager of taxation.  She has spent 20 years in public accounting.

“Cari’s extensive experience in firms of all sizes – from international to sole owner – gives her a unique perspective to address the varying needs of AICPA members who provide tax services,” said AICPA Vice President of Taxation Edward S. Karl in announcing the appointment.  “I look forward to working with Cari to promote CPAs as the premiere providers of tax services.”

She regularly represents the AICPA in webcasts and speaking engagements and as a media spokesperson on both technical and practice management tax topics.  In addition, Weston has contributed articles to several AICPA publications.

Weston served on the AICPA’s Tax Practice Management Committee from 2011 to 2013.  She is also a member of the Texas Society of CPAs, where she held several appointed volunteer posts.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master of Science in Taxation from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.
